This study has identified work-related accidents without leave, occurred with crew members and service providers in five tankers of a shipping company in the business of bulk liquids, over ten years. Data were obtained on the records of health professionals on board as well as interviews with the crews of the ships. It was found that most accidents occurred with Foremen, Deck Sailors and Deck Boys, whose body parts most affected are the trunk and spine, with pains at body as a result of physical exertion and improper handling of weights, and ergonomically incorrect positioning repetitive during its operational activities and maintenance of external areas of the ship. It was concluded that it is needed better planning of work activities, as well as implementation of prevention programs and awareness of safe ergonomic practices for work on board of these categories.
